The closing comments

After 45.5 hours of sailing, and that's not including time spent on land, we touched land in Sogndal harbor today at noon. Then we had done hour longest stretch of straight sailing yet, 24 hours from Askvoll. Our goal from there was to enter Sognefjorden, which by the way is the worlds longest fjord, and then its straight sailing to the end of it.
We lost the sun about an hour earlier because of the high mountains, and I barely got to squeeze off a shot before it set.



When you sail these long stretches its important to get the diet right. This was our choice of the day, Smash and raisin-buns with mackerel in tomato. Yummy.



Though it isn't really dark this time of year, you can really feel the night on the cold. It wasn't as bad as the night to Askvoll, but I still had to wear wool underwear, a sweater and a heavy nylon lined knitted wool sweater on top, in addition to a cap and gloves of course.
One of the cruise ships that probably left the quay in Flåm passed us early that night. Trym had a couple of hours sleep before we had our nightly dinner of paper cup pasta bolognese and coffee, and then I went to bed and slept a little (longer) while.



When I woke the sun had risen a couple of hours before, and we were just past Leikanger. Then the engine started to f**k about. As a matter of fact it hadn't been itself earlier either, but now it just downright stopped. After several restarts it just gave up and died. We made it to the boat harbor in Ylvisåker, just 2 hours from our final destination. There my father came to our rescue, and helped get all the air out of the diesel in the engine.

The motor suddenly woke up, and better than ever! We threw our shirts and got to it. Even with a little water in the fuel, we made good speed and reached our destination about 1.5 hours later. We even had a welcoming committee on the Bridge as we passed! Flags and all.





We moored the boat as fast as we could and got home to a sorely needed BBQ. Even with the extra 15 hours spent on the trip because of engine trouble, it was definitely worth it. Now I'm gonna get back to nursing my badly burnt nose.
